Meet Krystal, founder of AstroKnot, a galactic series of arts featuring bead woven maps of the constellations, space telescope captures, and varied astronomical phenomena. While weaving she studies the scientific data and is inspired to learn their timeless mythologies. 

As part of her process she practices  sustainable foraging and recycling the use of materials, foods and land medicines to create inks, dyes, and watercolour blends for paintings.  This supports an embodied and conscious approach to her expression of creativity while nurturing her relationship to the natural world. Her practice of interdisciplinary media also includes chalk pastels, charcoals, beadwork, and natural inks. 

A series of her illustrative works are published in “Moonlight Somata: a song of bodies in moonlight” as written by Jay Odjick from the anthology: “A Howl: An Indigenous Comics Collection of Wolves, Werewolves, and Rougarou.”

She was born in Ottawa where she currently resides with her two children + dog, Falkor + feline, Penelope; her ancestry is Sḵwx̱wú7mesh and mixed European.
