Astro-knot canvases can be used as a portable guide in your astronomical gazing, framed as a canvas, or token in personal ritual space. Each panel features a beadwork weaving of a constellation; all graph designs are my own as referenced from astronomical maps
Every painting features in-house made botanical inks that were brewed from locally harvested sumac berries + riverbank grapes so their vibrant tones reflect the landscapes in our community.
Astro insights: •lepus, the hare• Located south of the celestial equator, Lepus can be found directly below the constellation Orion. Bordered by Canis Major, Columba and Eridanus. Its brightest star, Alpha Leporis is a white supergiant whose traditional name (Arneb) translates to “the hare”. Also contains the Mira variable “Hinds Crimson Star” which features a striking red colour.
In mythos Lepus is commonly represented as the hare being hunted by Orion and his dogs. It is also connected to a mythological Moon Rabbit, a figure known across many cultures. In Chinese folklore, the rabbit often is portrayed as a companion of the Moon goddess Chang'e who is constantly pounding the elixir of life for her and some show the making of cakes or rice cakes.
